Located inside the new Dairy Block, a micro-district located in LoDo, is the Maven Hotel. This independent hotel was built in what used to be the Windsor Dairy, hence the name. The Maven is the official partner of the Rockies and currently offers 50% off one night for fans. Can someone say staycation?
Walking into the Maven I immediately knew I was going to love it. Sitting areas with sultry leather couches, cow print rugs, and gorgeous tile (basically insta-heaven.) Directly in front of you, from the entrance, are stairs up to the Poka Lola Social Club. This place. Mint colored couches, black and white tile, and gold accent pieces. The darker ambience is classy and casual enough that I felt totally comfortable sitting alone while waiting for a friend. Tucked into a corner are two arcade games that add to the fun juxtaposition of classy and Poka Lola’s goal of being the “everyman’s cocktail bar.”
Poka Lola’s cocktail menu is seperated into sections: Fancy (these were my favorite,) Tropical, and Fountain. The fountain cocktails attest to Poka’s “nod to turn of the century American soda fountain culture.” They also have wine, beer, and highballs for the purists. My gal pal and I opted for the coney dog, which was a steal of a deal for only $5, and was so yummy, glutinous and even came with fries (yes please.) Also available food wise are bar staples like marinated olives and mixed nuts and a heartier meal of steak frites.
The art and all the small details of the Maven and the Poka Lola Social Club made for such a good time. So happy to have this new spot in Denver. Check it out for a ladies night or predate cocktails. I promise you won’t be disappointed. And don’t you even feel ashamed of taking a picture of your shoes on that tile.
